Capital Community Media is seeking an Executive Director..
Capital Community Media, known for many years as CCTV and now as CC:Media, is seeking a visionary, community driven leader to be our next Executive Director. Our new ED will have the full backing of our Board and staff, plus many community partners with relationships that started as early as our incorporation in 1989. Our staff is experienced and dedicated. Our 11,000 square foot media center is well equipped.
Salem is a great place to work and live. We’re just an hour from the Pacific Ocean, the Cascade Mountain Range, Portland and Eugene. We have terrific colleagues in Portland. We’re very active in the Alliance for Community Media.
We encourage you to read our material. If you think this could be the right job for you, please apply. You may be key to the future of community media in Salem and a part of the movement to provide community media all across America.
The ideal candidate will bring a track record of nonprofit leadership, a passion for community engagement, and a commitment to amplifying diverse voices. Experience with fundraising and development is helpful, but not central. Most importantly, this leader will bring creativity, clarity, and care in guiding the organization forward—strengthening partnerships, championing innovation, and expanding CC:Media’s impact across television, radio, and digital platforms.

A Sweet Farewell....
Today marks the last day for Ashley….
Today, April 25th, is the last day for Ashley Jackson, our Community News and Information Specialist. She was hired back in January of 2023 to be a part of our News Department and has since grown into an integral part of our team, covering events throughout the city and being the face of Salem Buzz. We will miss Ashley’s bubbly personality and knack for storytelling.
Here’s a little farewell from her:
“I want to say thank you to everyone that played a role in my journey here at CC:Media. The last almost two and a half years have been filled with so many invaluable experiences that I'll never forget! Although I may be leaving my official position, I will still be around creating content and supporting CC:Media's mission. Thank you for believing in me and allowing me to flourish in such an impactful environment. Looking forward to the future!”
Good luck, Ashley, in your future pursuits!

A note from our Community News Director, Meghan Jonas
Hello, all!
When I first started my role as CC:Media's inaugural community news director last fall, I had no idea what this program would become.
We knew from community surveys that Salem was desperate for more news, and my experience moving from out of state made me desperate to deeply know my neighbors. I believed that by telling people's personal stories, we might create a community that could better love one another through a larger understanding of the diverse perspectives this city holds. Less than a year later, I still feel that way and am so proud of what we've built.
We've connected folks to resources. Our first story featured the team at Safety Compass who support survivors of human trafficking. Other stories featured food pantry and community garden facilitators that keep Salem fed and the coaches at Rock Steady Boxing that help locals fight back against Parkinson's disease.
We spoke with local leaders, like City Councilor and CASA of Marion County Executive Director Vanessa Nordyke, and community builders, like Black Joy Oregon founder and director Juli Ray Joy (formerly Julianne Jackson).
We learned about the importance of restoring the environment through the teachings of Elderberry Wisdom Farm's founder, Rose High Bear. And we had some fun when we interviewed drag queen, RiRi Calienté at the Infinity Room, local musicians for Make Music Day and Enlightened Theatrics's Executive Director, Jessica Peterson.
We launched our first podcast and newsletter, Stories of Salem, and filled our public access channels with fresh content. But one of the things I'm most proud of is how we made those we spoke to feel. There are very few things that feel better than when I hear that someone had fun and felt safe enough to show up as they authentically are, despite the nerves that may come up when around bright lights and big cameras.
In less than a year, CC:Media's community news department has grown from a concept to an invigorating and alive newsroom. I am confident in CC:Media's trajectory and potential to continue providing valuable and unique perspectives to Salem.
My other love has been, and always will be, teaching. I am overjoyed to be returning to education this Fall as I teach the next generation that they are worthy of care and support and are capable of becoming kind, resilient, autonomous human beings.
My last day at CC:Media will be August 25th, just in time for our latest story about local author and artist, Glenda Goodrich. I am thankful for the wonderful team here at CC:Media, including our fearless leader, Charles Lewis, and my compatriot in news, Ashley Jackson Lawrence. But most of all, I'm thankful for everyone who opened their hearts and invited us into their inner worlds to share with our audiences. Thank you, Salem, for letting me share your stories.
A Congratulations and Farewell
Congratulations to our Executive Director, Jasmine White as she starts her new journey as CEO of Montgomery Community Media in Rockville, Maryland in February, where she worked prior to joining the Capital Community Media team.
Jasmine started with Capital Community Media on September 1, 2020 and since then has led CC:Media through organizational restructure, implementation of radio programming on 98.3 KMWV, and increased production services for hire, mostly during Covid shutdowns.
Jasmine takes with her a vast knowledge of production, media training, and nonprofit leadership experience but also a very deep understanding of the critical role community media plays in civic engagement and community building. Her vision for what CC:Media can become will be echoed moving forward.
Longtime employee and Operations Manager, Charles Lewis, has been appointed by CC:Media Board of Directors as Interim Executive Director. Charles’ extensive knowledge and experience, as well his relationships with CC:Media partners and staff, is invaluable for ensuring we continue to serve the city of Salem uninterrupted as the Board conducts a thorough, nationwide search for the next ED. Charles’ demonstrated commitment to the mission of CC:Media and passion for what we do is exactly what is needed at this time. We are very excited to have someone of Charles’ caliber and experience during this time.
Charles and Jasmine are working closely together this month to transition projects and prepare him for this new leadership journey.

Capital Community Media, formerly known as CCTV, has evolved its brand to reflect its expansive role in the greater Salem community while aiming to increase awareness and utilization of services as well as long-term fiscal strength.
““The new name, Capital Community Media, honors the organization’s internal values and community relationships built in the past 30 years.””
The organization’s former name was well known, but didn’t capture the full breadth of its mission. While the media center does serve as Salem’s only TV station, its offerings also include local radio, free studio space for individuals and nonprofits, and career development opportunities for youth. At this stage in its growth, the “TV” in “CCTV” had become limiting and incomplete.
To better reflect its role in the community, the media center embarked upon a comprehensive branding effort in partnership with the Corvallis-based firm Madison Ave. Collective. Its goals were to connect to diverse audiences of all ages; to create awareness of its services; and to support a diversified funding model to embody the forward-looking vision that it has for its future.
“The new name, Capital Community Media, honors the organization’s internal values and community relationships built in the past 30 years”, said Executive Director Alan Bushong. “It also supports a growing system of sub-brands (such as CC:Radio and CC:TV) that represent our wide variety of offerings in a familiar, coordinated way.”
In addition to rolling out the new brand name, logo, and messaging, this August, CC:Media will also be launching over-the-top (OTT) services such as 24/7 channel streaming and video on demand through Roku and Apple TV in an effort to remove barriers for the viewing audience and offer greater access to community information.
Capital Community Media (capitalcommunitymedia.org) is a multimedia center in the greater Salem area that provides local content, education, and a platform for people who want to hear and be heard by their community. The not-for-profit organization produces CC:TV, which can be found on Comcast cable channels 21, 22, 23, and 322, as well as CC:Radio at 98.3 FM.

Last Thursday evening, the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) held their annual Hometown Media Awards ceremony, this year in a virtual setting. The Hometown Media Awards is the Foundation of the ACM’s yearly awards program. It is established to honor and promote community media and local cable programs that are distributed on Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels. Proceeds go to ACM Foundation which is exclusively used for facilitating, preserving and promoting education in community media.
This year, Wendy and Charles are honored to have won in the Cultural Perspectives (Access Professional) category! They received this honor for their piece, "The Healing Garden Behind Prison Walls”.
The video celebrates the opening of the Oregon State Penitentiary’s Memorial Healing Garden. It was the dream of members of the OSP Asian Pacific Family Club who raised all funds needed to create a Japanese Garden to be enjoyed by those inside and outside OSP's walls. It is the only such prison garden in the United States.
Each year thousands of entries are submitted. These entries, or programs, are both submitted and evaluated on several factors resulting in over 150+ award winners. A panel of judges evaluates the entries from the industry. Awards are presented to the most creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats and move viewers to experience television in a different way.
Watch the complete Hometown Awards celebration on CCTV Channel 22/322 at the following times:
7/15 at 6:00 PM
7/18 at 8:00 PM
7/19 at 7:00 PM
7/20 at 4:00 PM
7/22 at 12:00 PM
Congratulations, Wendy and Charles!
