New Executive Director for Capital Community Media
Luis Mendoza Selected as CC:Media’s New Executive Director
The Board of Directors of Capital Community Media is pleased to announce the appointment of Luis Mendoza as its next Executive Director. Luis succeeds Alan Bushong, who is retiring after many years of dedicated leadership and service to community media in Salem and Marion County. Alan’s steady guidance helped shape CC:Media into a trusted civic institution, and the Board extends its deep gratitude for his lasting impact on access, storytelling, and local democracy.
Luis brings nearly a decade of experience at CC:Media, where he started as a volunteer. On staff he served as Community Facilitator, working directly with hundreds of community members, nonprofits, schools, and public partners. His leadership spans community training, capital project management, budgeting support, grant collaboration, and equity-centered programming. A bilingual leader fluent in Spanish and English, Luis has been instrumental in expanding access and participation for one of Salem’s most vibrant communities including co-leading CC:Media’s first Latine Community Initiative.
In addition to his local leadership, Luis currently serves as Chair of the Alliance for Community Media Northwest Region Board, following several years as Treasurer. Through this regional role, he has strengthened collaboration among community media centers, supported shared advocacy efforts, and helped revive signature programs such as the Best of the Northwest Festival. His experience bridges hands-on operations, nonprofit governance, and strategic partnership building—skills the Board believes are essential for CC:Media’s next chapter.
The Board is confident that Luis’s deep institutional knowledge, strong community relationships, and commitment to inclusive civic engagement position him well to lead CC:Media into the future. We invite the community to join us in thanking Alan Bushong for his remarkable service and in welcoming Luis Mendoza as Executive Director as CC:Media continues its mission to inform, engage, and amplify the voices of our community.
Congratulations, Luis!
