An Open Letter to Our Community Producers About Updated Studio Hours & Classes

Hello community producers,
We’re writing to share an update to our studio access hours and training schedule beginning March 1.

Like many local nonprofits, CC:Media is navigating a period of change—both in funding capacity and in staffing as Luis transitions into the Executive Director role. While we explored filling a vacant position that previously supported public access services, we are not able to add payroll at this time. Rather than reduce services unpredictably, we’re choosing a plan that keeps access reliable, consistent, and sustainable with our current team.

What’s staying strong

Our commitment to community access has not changed. We still believe in:

  • Keeping media tools available to the public

  • Supporting local voices and local stories

  • Providing clear pathways to learn production skills

  • Operating studios in a way that’s safe, welcoming, and dependable

What’s changing (effective March 1)

To operate within our current staffing capacity and resources, we’re adjusting our schedule:

Studios Open (Public Access):

  • Thursday: 11:00 am – 7:00 pm (expanded from 1–7)

  • Friday: 11:00 am – 7:00 pm (expanded from 1–7)

  • First Saturday of each month: 11:00 am – 7:00 pm

Gear Checkout / Returns:
Available during open hours on Thu / Fri / First Sat.

Thursday Classes (monthly rotation):

  • 1st Thursday: Orientation (60 minutes)

  • 2nd Thursday: Camera Class

  • 3rd Thursday: Studio Class

  • 4th Thursday: Editing Class

A note about studio support

To keep services sustainable, staff support in the studio will focus on basic single-camera setup when no crew is available. For multi-camera or more complex productions, producers will need to be self-sufficient or bring a crew.

To help with that, we’ll be launching a producer Discord so community producers can connect, find help, and build collaborations.

Booking & cancellations

  • Studio booking is coordinated through our usual process.

  • Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance so we can offer the time to others.

  • On rare occasions, CC:Media projects may receive priority access to a studio and could bump a reservation. If that happens, we’ll do our best to communicate early and offer alternatives.

We recognize that any change can be inconvenient. We made this decision carefully, with the goal of minimizing disruption while preserving the core services that define CC:Media. We deeply appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued partnership as we move through this transition.

Thank you for being part of this community. Your work matters, and we’re committed to keeping the doors open—reliably—so you can keep creating.
